Which Diet Should Pregnant Women Take?

To have a healthy child, it is important to eat a well-balanced diet during pregnancy. The food taken by mother has a deep impact upon fetal development, as well as her own body. Moreover, this food is the only source of nutrition for the baby, who is developing inside her womb.

Increase Calories

At the beginning of first trimester, a daily addition of 150 Calories is required that will go to 250 calories a day by the end of last stage. This can be done by taking daily:
A glass of full cream milkAn additional slice of bread or a big chunk of fruit10 gm or 1/3 ounce protein additionallyCarbohydrates from carbs-rich foods such as pasta, bread, cereals, honey and fruitsFats containing essential fatty acids only. Excess can be disturbing.

There will be weight gain between 20 to 26 lbs (9 to 12 kg) with some variation. Obese women may acquire less weight and slim mothers are likely to gain relatively more.

Vitamins and Mineral Requirement

With an adequate and balanced diet, the increased demand for vitamins and minerals can be satisfied.

Folic Acid (Vitamin B 9)

Take at least 400 micrograms of folic acid every day, not only during pregnancy but, also several weeks before conception and after childbirth. Supplements can be taken if, enough folic acid is not provided naturally through diet. This vitamin prevents any defects in neural tube. Therefore, it is increasingly important to get it in required amount. Its sources are:
Tropical fruitsVegetablesWheat germEggsSupplements

It is especially required before and during the initial stage of pregnancy.

Calcium

During the entire pregnancy period, a substantial amount of calcium is transferred from mother to fetus. Therefore, it must be taken in a high amount to allow bone and teeth formation in the baby. During first six months, mother stores this mineral in her bones. When skeletal growth of the fetus is at its peak, it takes up that calcium stored in the bones of mother.

Increase the consumption of milk and dairy products to get enough calcium.

Iron

Blood formation is necessary, as the volume of mother's blood increases. Red blood cells in the fetus have to be developed to ensure proper health. Iron from animal origin has high blood assimilation property, as compared to iron from vegetable source. The foods rich in iron are:
FishMeatliverEgg yolkVegetablesWhole-grain products

To ensure that iron is well absorbed in the blood, take vitamin C (ascorbic acid) from raw foods, preferably with the same meal.

Vitamin C

Sometimes, getting iron-rich food is not enough. It is not sure that it will be absorbed into the blood, when it is taken. There has to be a way to get it fully absorbed and let it perform its beneficial function. Vitamin C is one special nutrient that is found to be helpful for iron absorption. Add this vitamin in your daily diet.

In case of any other disorder, get a specific diet plan.

Why Women Should Use A BellaBand During Their Pregnancy

The transition from pre-maternity to maternity to postpartum clothing can seem a bit frustrating, as they do not always fit as one wishes and one's body is constantly changing. Pre-maternity jeans no longer button during pregnancy yet maternity jeans are too loose. During these times of transition, renowned designer Ingrid & Isabel has created the hugely popular BellaBand, designed to solve one's clothing dilemma. No matter what stage one is at in one's pregnancy, it is an absolute must to add to one's maternity and postpartum wardrobe.

In 2001, mother and business woman Ingrid Carney found that her pre-maternity jeans were no longer buttoning. Eager to still wear them, she fashioned herself a makeshift elastic band to keep the open button flat, allowing her to wear the jeans for many more weeks. This band became the first unofficial BellaBand, and after much research and testing she founded Ingrid & Isabel and created this top selling product.

The BellaBand is made of a super soft and stretchy nylon and spandex mix, designed to fit throughout all stages of one's pregnancy. This ultra-soft knit blend combined with its seamless construction ensures that one will be comfortable throughout the entire day. There is no itching or annoying tag with this product! It is also available in a variety of colors, including but not limited to black, white, brown, and pink. For a slight variation, the Lace BellaBand offers extra feminine detail with a beautiful lace trim. Perhaps one of the best attributes is its versatility, as it can be worn through every stage of one's pregnancy and well beyond. Its cost-per-wear is fabulous, making it an excellent and smart purchase for one's wardrobe.

So well designed that it can be worn throughout one's pregnancy, it is incredible how many different ways it is used. In the early pregnancy months, it can be worn folded over one's un-buttoned pre-pregnancy bottoms to get a bit more use out of them. It can also be worn over too loose maternity clothing. In mid-pregnancy, it works so well with many maternity styles and can be worn pulled up or folded over. It conceals excess fabric, smooths out elastic waistbands, and gives that extra bit of hold to any pants that might be a bit too loose. In late pregnancy when one's belly can push down pants, skirts, or shorts, wear the BellaBand folded over to add extra reinforcement to help hold up one's bottoms. After one has given birth, it is still incredibly useful. When your maternity clothes are too big and your pre- pregnancy clothing does not quite fit again, the BellaBand can get you through this transition time. For nursing mothers it is also a huge benefit, as it can be worn pulled up over one's belly to add a bit of coverage during nursing. With so much usage and so many ways to wear it, it is a smart purchase and everyday essential to add to one's wardrobe.

Whether one is running errand or dressing up for an evening out, the BellaBand can add comfort and security to one's day. For an evening out, choose the black Lace BellaBand to wear over a sexy black skirt paired with a sophisticated silk blouse. At the office, the same one works great paired with slacks and a great blazer. When headed out for lunch with girlfriends, throw on your favorite jeans shorts and the white one paired with a cute white boyfriend t- shirt. From dressy to casual, it meets all one's needs!

No matter what stage of pregnancy one is in, Ingrid & Isabel's BellaBand is a smart and practical purchase to add to one's wardrobe. From early pregnancy to well into nursing, it will ensure one's comfort and peace of mind throughout the day. One is sure to look and feel great!

Skin Changes for Women in Their Second Trimester of Pregnancy

The second trimester of a women's pregnancy can involve many scary changes to the body. One of the most noticeable changes comes in a women's skin. With the dramatic rise in estrogen, increase in body weight and overall hormonal craziness the skin goes through a major transformation. With each pregnancy there are different skin conditions that may occur to a woman. While these skin conditions are not all encompassing, these are some of the most common changes that take place to a women's skin.

One of the most common new skin conditions is a dark line (linea nigra) that starts on the lower abdomen and runs from the pubic bone up to the navel. As the due date gets closer, this line tends to get darker and wider, expanding with the stomach. This is usually seen more in women with darker skin and is rare for women with lighter skin tone. This line will fade away after the pregnancy like most other pregnancy related skin changes.

A mask-like look may surround the cheeks, nose and eyes of mother to be. This darkening called chloasma is a very common trait of pregnant women. Sometimes called the "mask of pregnancy", this can be darkened by extended exposure to the sun.

With estrogen levels soaring in the body, the blood vessels often appear on the surface of the skin. Red spots over the skin are a sign of these blood vessels surfacing. These spots are easy to spot from acne because once they are touched they turn white. These spots will usually instantly disappear after labor and are usually never seen again, at least not until another pregnancy.

Palmar erythema, or reddening of the hand, is often a common sign of pregnancy. This reddening, similar to the red spots, is also a clear sign of high levels of estrogen in the body. Like the red spots, this will often subside after delivering your baby.

Multiple skin tags will often appear on the body during pregnancy. The formation of these tags is unknown and they will often fade over time. Many women get nervous about these after pregnancy, but find they eventually go away.

Pregnancy is the most dramatic change that can happen to a women's body. Before contacting a dermatologist or panicking, women should know that there will be a dramatic change in their bodies. One of the most promising things about these skin changes is that they are almost always temporary and will subside soon after pregnancy.
