Symptoms Of Pregnancy In The First Month

Symptoms of pregnancy in the first month can vary from woman to woman but a missed period is usually the first alarm bell that rings and unless you are planning your pregnancy and have all your cycles logged down you can find yourself going back in your mind to when you actually last had a period.

Swollen breasts are another symptom which can be misinterpreted as a sign of a period but you may find that as well as the breasts feeling heavy and sore, the veins have become quite prominent too. Tiredness can be one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy in the first month -always feeling tired, especially in the afternoon and finding that no sleep is ever enough. You may find that you have a huge urge to nod off while sitting at your desk at work and this is something that never usually happens to you!!

Morning Sickness - Can strike at anytime of the day, some mothers are unfortunate to have all day morning sickness which can be so debilitating that you can often start each day not knowing how you are going to get through it. It can start from as early as 2 weeks and last up until 14 weeks. A heightened sense of smell is another symptom of pregnancy and can also be a trigger of nausea, things you once loved the smell of, such as perfumes and aftershaves have become so repulsive that you will have no alternative but to find them new homes outdoors and a long way from the house, as even the slightest whiff of them can make you bolt for the toilet. You could be lucky though and not have either of these symptoms in pregnancy, or if you do, they might just be subtle.

Following some of the symptoms in the first month that I have discussed above here are a couple more that can begin a little later - frequent urination - this can happen within 6 weeks of pregnancy and is due to a hormone the body produces during pregnancy. Headaches are not unusual in the first trimester of your pregnancy especially if you are susceptible to them - pregnancy can make them worse. The reason for headaches is not known but experts believe it is probably due to the hormone levels changing. Giving up caffeine can also be another trigger for headaches.

Every woman is different and she may experience different pregnancy symptoms in first month and at later stages during her pregnancy, some won't feel sick at all and others can suffer considerably but usually after the first 14 - 16 weeks the symptoms get easier and you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy with a new found level of energy, especially for the nesting phase (i.e. the huge desire to decorate, sort out and clean the whole house!!)
