In Vitro Fertilization Success Rates

There are many people looking into in vitro fertilization and seeing the benefits it can have for a couple who are trying to get pregnant. IVF is a process that involves taking a woman's egg and placing it in a petri dish with a man's sperm to help fertilize it. There are several eggs that are fertilize and then implanted into the female. As far as in vitro fertilization success rates, this can vary based on a few various factors such as the age of a woman. The overall success rate of IVF is about 18 - 45%, and this is based on the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. There are 4 features that can help professionals get an accuracy rate of 70% in regards to whether or not a woman will get pregnant or not.

Considerations

There were old methods that were used to determine the success rate and that was to examine embryos individually which later were fertilized and then implanted into the uterus of the woman. Once research was done in 2005, there were more and more researchers that were paying more attention to these 4 factors that included total embryos, the cell division process, hormone levels in the woman, and if 8-cell embryos were present.

Features

In the research performed by Stanford professionals, 6 doctors did IVF with about 677 women and an average of 19.1 to 29% resulted in pregnancy. This study in the end showed that the success rate of in vitro fertilization did not matter on who the physician was as each procedure was a standard one.

Warning

Just as the 2005 study showed, there are many factors that play a part in how successful an IVF procedure is. Some of these factors are the age of the woman and the viability of a man's sperm. There are several other factors as well and you should be prepared because some IVF procedures will result in you having multiple births as opposed to just one. This is because more than one egg is inserted for a higher success rate. If you do not want to take this chance, you should tell your doctor ahead of time so a different process can be taken.

Significance

With IVF comes a pretty hefty price tag. However, if professionals can predict the accuracy and whether or not a woman can become pregnant or not, then more and more couples may opt for this process. The price tag will be an overall factor, but women are more likely to swallow the price tag if they know they are going to be able to carry a child. There was a research study conducted by Stanford researchers. It was conducted on 665 women who were undergoing in vitro fertilization and researchers examined an average of 30 factors. By looking at 4 different factors, they were able to predict about 70% of them were able to result in a full pregnancy.

IVF has grown in success and there are always research studies done that are improving outcomes. Having a child can be possible even if you cannot get pregnant naturally.
