The ultrasound-guided method utilizes a small needle that is hollow and is guided by way of a tube and a camera to ensure the doctor gets to the proper place where the eggs are. The eggs are removed with a little bit of suction and then the needle is removed. Local anesthesia may be used at times to help eliminate any pain or discomfort you may experience.
Fertilization
The fertilization of the eggs is the 3rd step in the in vitro fertilization procedure. Once eggs are retrieved, the eggs and the sperm are placed in an incubator to mimic a woman's body temperature. This stage will last about 48 hours and is designed to fertilize the eggs.
Transferring the Embryos
Once the eggs are fertilized, they are then transferred to the woman's uterus to grow and form into a baby. The eggs are implanted into the uterus through way of a catheter. A few eggs are implanted to help increase the rate of success, and on average, 3 or 4 eggs are used. Doctors shy away from doing any more in the case multiple pregnancies occur.
