Becoming a mother can be a time of great happiness for most women but when to get pregnant requires more thought and planning. A child is not just a gift but also a great responsibility and raising one requires lot of attention and hard work.
When and how to have a child is something you need to give a lot of thought to. A woman needs to remember and consider that a mother is the primary care giver to a child, even in a house full of relatives and friends. So, her readiness is the most important thing when making a decision for childbirth. Some factors to consider while planning a pregnancy are:
1. The age of the mother: The best age, physically, to have a child is from 18 to 35 when the body is ready for the trails and travails of pregnancy and the chances of complications are less. Though a woman can have a child earlier, the mental and emotional readiness may be fairly low for motherhood. Having a child after 35 is also possible but the requirement for medical supervision will be higher.
2. Mental and emotional readiness and willingness of the parents: Are you ready to invest time and effort in raising your little one, making required lifestyle changes? Are you ready for frequent late nights, less outings and lesser personal space, at least for the first few months after the birth of your kid? If there are any emotional or relationship issues you are dealing with, you need to find a way to get them sorted before you bring another being into your world.
3. Financial stability of the parents: Pregnancy and child birth involves medical expenses. But besides that it may involve the mother needing to take a break from earning as well as charges for any extra help you hire to help with the first few months after child birth. Do plan for all the financial changes that your life will go through this period and later.
4. Existing family size and form: If it is not your first child, remember that every child needs your attention and you should have a family size where you can ensure that. Also, the body of a mother needs time to recuperate after child birth, so leave a difference of at least 2-3 years between your two pregnancies. And do involve your older child in the process and ensure they are as ready and eager as you are for the new addition to the family.
But what should you do in case you are not ready for the pregnancy. A medical termination of pregnancy can be carried out from the very first day to the 20th week of pregnancy. Within the first 4 to 6 weeks the same can be done with the help of medicines alone and does not require any medical procedure. But as soon as you tamper with the natural order of things, there are various implications you need to consider. So, discuss the same with your gynecologist and look at all options before you decide either way.
And once you have decided to go ahead with the pregnancy, just sit back and relax! Enjoy the various phases, take care yourself and follow all your doctor's instructions and medications. Remember that the happier and more at peace you are during pregnancy, the healthier your child will be!
